from the swing perspective
Laundry is done at the “clubhouse” in my apartment complex. Once I put it in, if it’s nice out, I like to wander around outside. There is a small playground area that includes 2 swings. I like swinging in the dark by myself…….

That pattern is what you see if you are using the pushing motion your entire body creates in order to be in a normal swinging pattern in which you are increasing both your speed and height into the air.
The sky at night, on nights like this one, is beautiful. In fact, no matter what kind of day it is, the sky is almost always more rewarding to look at than the ground. The playground is full of dirt and rocks. It doesn’t even compete with the sky.
If you sit still and lightly, effortlessly swing back and forth, you don’t really ever get a glimpse of the sky. The ground is your destined focal point due to your own motion or lack thereof.
When you sit on the swing and extend your legs out straight, and at the same time lean your upper body back, hanging on with your hands to avoid hitting the ground, the sky is all you can see. It’s a lot of work, seemingly for not much movement. You are suspended there, in air, by your own strength and focus. You have created a situation in which all you can see is the sky.

Through our efforts, we allow ourselves to be vulnerable. In allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, we force our eyes into the position of seeing what is enticing to us. Sure, it’s easier to sit still and stare at what is in front of us. It’s safe to be in constant motion, catching a glimpse of beauty now and then to break up the monotony of the unfulfilling ground we stand on.
But….. if we make the choice to open ourselves up, to make the effort to hold ourselves towards the sky, we are rewarded with the clarity of limitless possibilities.
Don’t worry about going further into the ground, we already know it brings more ground. Worry instead, about exploring your sky. Be excited about pioneering.
